Želvu nádhernou (Pseudemys skripta elegans) chovám od listopadu roku 2004. Je zatím malá, krmím jí sušenými korýši, pokoušela jsem se jí dávat granule pro želvy, ale nepříjímá je. Také jí občas dávám syrová játra a kousek nějakého ovoce. Chovám ji v litém akváriu, kde má kámen na vyhřívání. Svítím jí normální lampou s žárovkou. V nejbližší době se bude stěhovat do vybaveného akvária, kde bude mít štěrk, filtr a topení.
Želva ozdobná (nádherná) patří k často chovaným druhům. Má výrazné zbarvení s typickými červenými proužky po stranách hlavy a krku. V dospělosti má krunýř dlouhý téměř 30cm a tmavší než je tomu u mláďat. Pochází ze středních a východních oblastí USA, kde obývá klidné vody s bažinatým dnem a zarostlými břehy. V noci odpočívá, ve dne si hledá potravu-plže, rybky, vodní hmyz apod. Vyžaduje teplotu 20-27°C.
K dobrému zařízení nádrže budete potřebovat:
- nádrž (alespoň 50*20*20cm pro malou želvičku).V žádném případě nedoporučuji kupovat malé plastové nádobky s palmičkou!,
- něco, čím vytvoříte souš, např.kameny (používám břidlici), ostrůvek ze skla, písek, oblázky či nějaký kořen,
- a nějaký zdroj světla a tepla, nejlépe lampu ,
- ostatní záleží na vás, např.
- filtr (jinak min.každý týden vyměňovat vodu),
- a topné tělísko, jaké se používá v akváriích.
Krmení
Malé želvičky jsou hlavně masožravé, starší jedinci spíše býložravci. Mláďata krmíme nejlépe každý den, starší jedince přibližně třikrát týdně. Já krmím zatím jen korýši a játry, ale větší jedinci si vezmou i ovoce, hovězí maso (syrové), nitěnky a filé.
Jezírko
Želvu můžeme mít přes léto v zahradním jezírku, spíše dospělé jedince. Výběh musí být samozřejmě zajištěn proti kočkám a ostatním zvířatům, proti podhrabání želv. Stěny jezírka musí být šikmé, ve výběhu by měly být umístěny nízké keře, aby se želva mohla ukrýt.
